We know what you really want from summer suggestions:
The dreamiest rooftop spot to swirl a glass of Whispering Angel
Which suncream makes you glow like a Greek goddess (while blocking UVs)
And the kind of books that practically demand to be read with the sound of gentle waves crashing nearby
Honestly? Same. We see you, sun-chasers. And we totally respect the out-of-office energy.
BUT before you sprint through the departure lounge faster than Usain Bolt going for gold, we’ve got a few essential HR travel-size tips to pack in your bag of responsibilities. Think of it as your pre-holiday HR checklist. SPF: Strategic People Focus.
HR Housekeeping to Do Before You Fly Off
1. Review holiday calendars
Make sure you’re not heading into annual leave chaos. Are all leave requests logged? Does your team know who's covering what while you’re sipping Aperol in the sun?
2. Check employment contracts and policies
A quick pulse-check on your documents. Up to date? Clear on hybrid working, sickness, or summer dress code? (Yes, someone will push the flip-flop boundary.)
3. Prep for September now
We know - ew, don’t mention September. But future-you will thank you. Got reviews, appraisals, or strategy planning kicking off after the break? Pop them in the diary now.
4. Run a quick wellbeing check-in
Summer can be glorious for some - and overwhelming for others. A casual check-in with your team before the holidays can make a world of difference.
5. Tidy up personnel files & training logs
Just like you wouldn’t leave dishes in the sink before going on holiday (hopefully), don’t leave your HR files in a mess. Quick audit, check compliance, and tick off any overdue training.
6. Remind people about conduct during summer socials
Sunshine + Pimms = memories… but sometimes also HR headaches. A gentle, friendly reminder about conduct goes a long way.
So there you go - your “HR TripAdvisor” summer edit. Not quite “best infinity pools in the Algarve,” but your team (and future inbox) will thank you.
Bon voyage, HR hero. Now go set that OOO and pack the SPF (and if you need any advice this summer, then we are still around to help!).
